We Love Kids
Phang Nga children
Soon after we arrived in Phang Nga Pastor Prakop and his wife had twelve extra children who came from the rural areas. In all cases they lived in poverty and could not afford to attend school if it were not for this family taking them in. As the house was already full, the children sleep at the church in two of the rooms set aside for activities. Almost all had only one parent and many had parents in jail. Along with these extras the church often hosted neighborhood children who came for the company and to escape their own troubled lives for a time. I never saw much in the way of toys or belongings other than school books and the children amused themselves in free time with simple running games and sitting around in groups. That was when they were not cleaning, cooking and hand washing their few clothes.
One of the rooms we were given to use for Eaglesrest had become our ACA Home school room but even now doubles as our ministry office and Sunday school.
Rommel began a Sunday school so we could help the children know about God in a simple way and also learn some English. This was a great help to pastor Prakop and his wife.
We were excited to learn that ACA was willing to help us by providing funds to build playground equipment for these children as well as our own and others. We know that children will come from many cultures and nations around about over the next few years as we continue to minister God's love here. Just as music is an international language, so too is the laughter of children at play. We have enjoyed the bright shining faces of delighted children who see the hand of God blessing them in this simple way by providing something fun as well as practical. One of the largest public Primary schools is not far away and we have been invited to supply volunteers for single projects whenever they are available. Our own children attend the school every few months to help with English classes and establish relationships. In February 2009 a YWAM team was introduced to the entire school of 1300 students plus teachers. Over three days of English Day Camps over 500 children were taught in fun ways which included a clear gospel message. Other volunteers have also contributed to the ministry in the school and made such a positive impression with the teachers and students that the school has invited us to send in as many teams as are available. The door is wide open to spread the gospel to teachers and students alike.
There is also an opportunity for a native English speaking trained teacher to join the staff at the school. What an open door for the right person.
Photos below show visits to the local water falls; writing letters to Australia; and attending Sunday school.
