The area where we live

Here are some photos of our adventures with many friends and family in Christ
who we have been blessed  to be apart of.

The First Eagles Rest

Pastor Prakop Tinno and his wife Naw have a small church here in Phang  Nga which has around 15 members. They are well known in the community  having been here almost 20 years, however struggle to make ends meet.  When we arrived their household included two teenage children and aged  parents. Many neighborhood children also congregated in their small  home each day. At the time of the Tsunami, Naw became involved in helping WE LOVE THAILAND foundation, working in the community with affected families and especially the children. Eventually rooms at the church were set up to allow children from poor and remote homes to come and live together were they could attend school, returning to their parents or caregivers during holiday times. These were children who would otherwise be denied an education or live in extremely unhealthy environments. At first there was a large number of children but by the time we arrived the numbers had dropped to around ten children, This was still a handful for the struggling couple.    Some of the rooms were therefore freely given to us to use for the  beginning of Eagles Rest.  In return we took over the maintenance of the  entire premises as well as covering utility bills for all the buildings  and providing food for the large family. It was at this time that we set about to build the kitchen at the church for Naw to be able to prepare meals in a safe, hygenic environment. (check out the before and after pictures on the "Kitchen Project" tab) After this the target became making a playground for the children. The money for the project was raised through the ACA (Australian Christian Academy - School of Distance Education) which our children are enrolled in. (pictures under the "Playgroud Project" tab)   By the second year, all but one of the children had moved on which was a blessing for Naw as she needed to be available for the constant care of her ailing father. As much as possible we are still involved in the lives of many of the local children and hope to expand into the wider community as funds allow and team members join us.

The photos show our first meeting with the lawyer and members of the Eaglesrest board. The second shows the first room set up for guests. The furniture for all rooms has mostly come through donations although we add as we are able from our own support. At present we have three guest rooms plus the use of the Tinno family's four bedroom house. They have chosen to move into the church to allow us the extra accommodation areas "...until you have buildings of your own..." What a blessing!

Many have helped us along the way and we've had a lot of fun, serving our
local church and our community.
