Eagles Rest - The Ala Family in Thailand

MAY 2009

Dear Friend

POLITICAL MATTERS
The recent political unrest in Thailand has made world headlines and many people have expressed concern as to our safety. Please be assured that the violence and protests have so far been confined to certain areas of Bangkok which is over ten hours away from Phang Nga. We are in no immediate danger but we do ask that you keep the country and its people in your prayers.

TWO DAY BIBLE SEMINAR FOR THAI PASTORS AND LEADERS - APRIL 24/25TH

Over 40 people were encouraged and blessed during the Two Day Bible Seminar hosted by Eaglesrest. Pastor Allan Stanley-Smith (Australia) presented eight insightful lessons spaning from Creation to Revelation and clearly showing God's redemptive plan for mankind from the beginning to the end of time.

Below: Group photo of some of the people who attended the Bible seminar.

Translator, David Speights, has been in Thailand for many years and did a wonderful job of passing on God's message in a way that Thai speakers could appreciate. There was plenty of time for fellowship and singing together. It was wonderful to have Allan with us for just over a week and his maturity and wisdom will be a continued blessing for a long time to come. We do hope to be able to host similar training and teaching sessions in the future for the building up of the local Christian Church.

MICHAEL! - AND NUMBER FOUR ON THE WAY
Introducing grandchild number three - Tamara (now three) has a beautiful baby brother named Michael born on April 1st. Mother and baby are doing very well.

Meanwhile Harrison, our miracle boy, recently underwent surgery to remove a piece of floating bowel. We all expected he would be in hospital for at least four days but he was doing so well the doctors discharged him the day after surgery. Harrison will celebrate his second birthday -against doctors' opinion- in June. Praise God HE is bigger than the bounds of modern medicine.

Grandchildren! Tamara(3) with new baby brother Michael and cousin Harrison (22 months).

Harrison has more surgery scheduled in about three month's time. Harrison is expecting a baby brother or sister to join him later this year. Praise God for delightful grand children.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS VACANT
We are in great need of short term or longer term people to come and fill some specific vacancies here. The first need is for someone with a love for cooking and learning new and varied ways to do it. There is a full job description on the web site but basically we need someone who can do the marketing, budget and prepare meals for all our visitors and teams. That includes many Asian nations so you need to be creative! Please enquire even if you can only donate a few weeks of your time.

The other need is for an accountant to manage the set up and keeping of financial records for Eaglesrest as we birth this new ministry. Again, details are given in full on the web site. We look forward to hearing from you!

LAND FUND
Our faithful elephant is still enjoying his painted toe nails. Please prayerfully consider helping him to find some further colour as we seek funds to purchase the land for Eaglesrest to be built.

FOUNDATION
As per our recent 'urgent request for Prayer' - please keep the registration papers in your prayers. There remains only the clearance from the Australian Embassy in Bangkok. We have been told that it will take another month once the Embassy has completed its part. We will keep you all posted on progress.

BOOK ENDORSEMENT

'The Healing Road to Thailand: Grace Bounds' is an honest and raw account of one woman's journey through a difficult time in her life. It has the highs and the lows but most importantly it reveals God's unrelenting pursuit of His love relationship with Janene and then in reading - each of us.

Janene, the author, is honest, not only about her journey and the facts, but about her feelings during that time. There is no 'pulling punches' it is a true and revealing story that expresses everything that Janene felt and thought.

I was captured by Janene's relationships with others, how she portrayed and defined them and how she worked through those relationships. The good and the bad are all there but they are there not just to be honest but show us redemption. As Janene lays out her 'Road' there is a constant underlying story of her redemption, through the pain, the suffering, the joy, the provision, the fun and the adventure there is deliverance. God is at work molding and changing Janene to make her a vessel worthy of service.

I enjoyed Janene's journey though Rwanda and the Congo - I was there with her seeing it and feeling it. The description of the bus journey and the sights, sounds and smells put me there.

'The Healing Road to Thailand: Grace Bounds' helped me to see Janene in a new light and begin to understand that God is never finished with us, that He never lets us go and that He always loves us.
