AUGUST
2009
Dear Friend,

Rommel comes from inspecting the damaged
rooms. The river is normally well behind the trees in the background. |
|
FLOODS
On Sunday July 12th, after all night heavy rain, we noticed how
quickly the river behind the schoolroom/office was rising. The
Pastor's family recognised from past experiences the danger to
the buildings and so we swung into action moving as much as possible
onto higher ground. Within two hours the water had reached the
gardens surrounding the building. Not long afterward the road
was flooded up to Rommel's knees (see photo). |
The river swelled into the unfinished
playground and almost to the main road. Two guest rooms and the
office had their floors coated with muddy brown water six inches
deep. Once the rain eased the water quickly receded again and
we were left with cleaning up.
Some of the homes closer to the river were in a much worse state
and we were able to provide accommodation for the night to Noy
(our new Eaglesrest cleaner) and her family in the guest house. |

The office/schoolroom, the 'Davis' room
and the 'Hartwick' rooms were the worst affected. |
|
The office/schoolroom has urgent need
of a new roof as the water coming through has already caused
the ceiling to rot in some places. With the rainy season just
beginning we ask that you pray for safety and protection for
our buildings as well as those neighbours who live on the riverbanks
nearby. Many live in little more than shacks of old discarded
materials which can be very unhygienic, uncomfortable, and chilly
in the wet season. |
VISITORS
Visitors the past month have included John and Maisie Hartwick
from Geelong, Victoria returning home to Australia; Aletta Bester
and her children, Joshua and Janke, saying their goodbyes as
they soon return to South Africa after serving in Thailand and
Malaysia over the past few years; and also Meredith and Jeremy
Williams and their children Zechariah and Faith visiting from
USA. Our children were thrilled to be able to catch up with their
young friends whom they met during our two years in Phuket. |

along with the Besters and Williams families with the children.

FOUNDATION
The word is that any day now the registration will be signed
and we will be official! Last check we learned that the Governor
was hosting the papers on his desk.... we will let you know as
soon as we do! |
The land fund has been boosted by an
additional $1,000 this month. Praise God! Do you know, in Phuket,
just an hour away, land (without views) is selling for an average
price of 12million Thai Baht per rai.
The land we are praying for is 34 times the size and yet only
14m.Thai Baht in total. And Eaglesrest guests get a beautiful
lake and views of the mountains included! |

Three day old puppies -Uganda is a proud
mother of 5 healthy males and 5 females. |
|
PUPPIES!
On Monday 20th we were privileged to watch the miracle of the
birth of three of the ten puppies now yapping around our front
door. Uganda, a stray that adopted us a few months ago, produced
a healthy litter of black puppies over a few hours and now it
just remains to find good homes in the area once they are weaned.
Discussions continue as to which ones/how may get to stay with
us! |
|
If you know
anyone travelling to Phuket or Bangkok from Australia in the
next few months maybe you can ask if they would be willing to
bring in some of the children's school books for next year. We
are grateful for those who have already helped us in this way
as it saves a lot of money in freight costs. There are only two
more bundles to be delivered so if you can help in any way, please
let us know as soon as you can!
Thanks so much!

PLEASE PRAY
I (Janene) have been to three hospitals in Phuket over the past
three months seeking relief and answers for a health problem.
Each doctor diagnosed differently and prescribed different treatments.
Each time the symptoms worsened and became more painful. It now
appears that what I have been battling is a case of shingles.
(Although the last Thai doctor had never heard of it he agreed
to check it out!). Please pray for swift and full recovery as
I take at least a week of bed rest and then continue on slow
mode for a while. It is times like these when we particularly
look forward to having a team to work with and share the ministry
and work load.
BOOK 2
My sincere apologies to those who have been waiting for your
copies of The Desires of My Heart: Eaglesrest is Born. The manuscript
is complete its just lacking the final page; the registration
of Eaglesrest. Please be patient for just a little longer. This
means there is a small window of time left for late orders -let
me know
asap and I'll add you to the list.
